My bags are packed, I'm ready to go....
Roadtrip: I plan to leave in about an hour to start the longest roadtrip I've been on to date. I flew back to Oregon on Saturday in order to pick up my car, today I begin the trek back to the East Coast. According to Google maps, I'll be driving 3,126 miles and it will take me approximately 47 hours of drive time. I have my route broken up so that it will take me 5 days to complete the trek, and I will be going slightly out of my way to visit my brother and sister-in-law on Tuesday night, but in the course of five days, 2 hours here or there doesn't seem to make much difference! Besides, I think it's a gift to him... I swear I'll be unpacking a large fraction of the stuff in my car as I'm carting some hunting gear for him! Also, Tuesday when I get to their house, my mom will be flying in to meet me there and then will join me for the last three days. This was something she surprised me with just yesterday, and I can't tell you how glad I am that I will have some company.
So my little silver civic is jam packed... opening either back door would tragically disrupt the balance, aka squashed items, I so carefully achieved yesterday. The only thing lost in the packing was the pack of gum the dog stole out of the pocket in the door when I went in for another load!
I have my audiobooks, CDs, cell phone, snacks.... a stop at Starbucks on the way out and I'm ready....
On the road again
Just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again
On the road again
Goin' places that I've never been
Seein' things that I may never see again,
And I can't wait to get on the road again.
(Thanks Willie!)

I'm so excited for you - and especially for you and your Mom. This will be a fun trip. And it will be hard too but it will be a great time for you and your Mom to spend together. Don't stress out. Don't worry about traffic, weather or anything else - just roll with whatever happens. And if you're worried, Jake and I are still speaking to each other.
