A rather "crappy" day....
Since this blog is supposed to give a hint of my LV life, let me take you through my day today....
7:00 am- picked-up one of my kids, drove him to school, met with his academic support teacher and together tried to convince him of the importance of parent conferences
7:30 am- get a call from a parent who wants her son's public defender's phone number so she can move up his court date (she can't) so that she can get him placed that much sooner.
7:45 am- get a call from a client who says that the school won't let him in without a parent because of his recent lack of attendance. Obviously turning him away when he shows up is the way to get him to come to school more....
8:00 am- standing outside a clients apartment yelling at the window for him to wake up since he wasn't answering the buzzer, trying to get him to school for the first time this year. He didn't get up.....
8:20 am- I finally met a client we opened two months ago! Nevermind that he was in bed, the positive was that he was home this time AND after a fair amount of prodding, and lots of grumbling, he actually got out of bed, allowed me to drive him to school and was at least somewhat pleasant.
8:45 am- explain to a school social worker that for one of her worst kids, school is probably his best place.
9:15 am- another phone call with the student turned away from school, he's now in class and all is good.
9:30- 10:30- tedious computer logging
10:00- co-worker comes in from visiting a client's mother. While there she found out that said client had an interesting start to his day, apparently his aunt pissed him off and so he threw shit at her. I apologize for being crass, but usually when we say a client was throwing shit we mean a book, a cup, maybe a chair. But this time it's quite literal... he actually threw his feces.
10:30- co-worker once again annoys the crap out of me. How you can respond with "good" when I tell you that a kid is missing is beyond me.... Leave for school tracking and spend the drive venting to my fellow LV over the phone
12:00-1:00- talk to my supervisor about the trauma of a loved one's death and how to help people deal with it
1:00- 2:30 more tedious computer logging
2:30-3:00 rundown with co-workers all of our client's cases
3:00- discuss the shit-throwing incident with the client's clinician
3:15- attempt to leave for tracking... proceed to back into fellow LV's car... Yea! no damage that wasn't already there!!!!
3:30-4:30- Go tracking. At the first house, I pull over when I see my client literally up a tree, I drove away when his friend had his pitbull (hence the tree climbing) attack my back tire. Later I find a missing client and try to convince her that it is not yet a certain fact that she is going to the training school (lock-up) so this idea of, "I'm already going there, so what does it matter what rules I break" is probably not the best one to follow.....
5:00-6:15 more tedious computer work (what can I say, I was a bit behind) meanwhile listening to the other team discuss their day at court, which turned into a day at the hospital, with the client since she took an unknown number of her anti-depressants.
Just another day at the office............
